Southwest Softball
Magazine
receives Lifetime Achievement Award |
Austin,
Texas: Southwest Softball Magazine was awarded the
Texas Amateur Softball Association Lifetime
Achievement Award for 25 years of continuous coverage
of the softball industry. The award was presented
October 8th at the Texas ASA Annual Awards Banquet
held at the Doubletree Hotel and Conference Center.
Publisher Stafford Conner started Southwest Softball
in 1980 at the encouragement of then-ASA Media
Director Bill Plummer III, who is now the
organization’s Director of Hall of Fame Services. The
Fort Worth based publication was originally called Arc
Magazine, as Connor was one of the original owners of
Arc Park, but changed the name to Southwest Softball
Magazine after three years.
“I congratulate Southwest Softball on its Lifetime
Achievement Award. During the past two decades,
Southwest Softball has been a viable softball
publication in the Southwest and has played a major
role in the promotion of softball,” said ASA Hall of
Fame Services Manager Bill Plummer III.
For a full quarter century, Southwest Softball has
published news, photographs, tournament listings and
advertising regarding softball played in Texas and
surrounding areas and states.
Conner was presented the award by Texas ASA District
30 Commissioner Greg Hutchingson, who is a
contributing editor to Southwest Softball. Also
joining the presentation was Texas ASA State
Commissioner Glen Morrison.
“Having spent my entire career in the newspaper
business, I fully understand and appreciate the value
of print media,” said Hutchingson. “For someone to not
only survive, but to thrive for twenty-five years in
this industry is certainly worthy of a Lifetime
Achievement Award.”
In other news from the convention, Morrison named
Hutchingson to the newly created position of Texas ASA
State Slowpitch Director. Hutchingson registered 1,022
teams in 2005 which was the most in Texas ASA and
earned the golden eagle trophy that goes with the Team
Registration Award.
Morrison is in his third year as State Commissioner of
Texas ASA, which is the national leader in team
registrations. |
