OLD A'S/MIKEN 60 TEAM GOES
7-0 TO WIN
THE SENIOR SOFTBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

In the final national championship in Senior Softball for 2005,
the Old A's/Miken 60 year old team from Walnut Creek, California,
defeated the top 60 Major Plus teams from around the country, to
win its fifth national championship of the year.
Phoenix, Arizona was the venue for this world tournament which
brought together the five top 60 year old major plus teams, which
included the Texas Ironmen, Human Kinetics from Florida, Thomas
Engineering from Virginia, Ruth Realty from Seattle, Washington
and the Old A's/Miken team from California.
Seeding games began on Thursday, with the Old A's defeating Ruth
Realty, 19-9, and then beating Human Kinetics, 10-6. Fridays
seeding games saw the Old A's defeating Thomas Engineering, 22-11,
and outlasting the Texas Ironmen, 36-32.
The double elimination portion of the tournament began on Saturday
with the Old A's garnering the first seed position, and defeating
Ruth Realty, 24-21. Next came the Texas Ironmen, with the Old A's
prevailing 25-6. After going through the losers bracket, the
Thomas Engineering team emerged as the final team to face the Old
A's. After 7 tough innings the Old A's defeated Thomas, 26-21, to
claim its fifth National Championship of the year. The others
being the SPA in Plano, Texas, the USSSA in Hutchinson, Kansas,
the Senior Softball World Series in Des Moines, Iowa, the LVSSA in
Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Old A's/Miken team had a .728 team batting average for the
World Championships, and awarded All Tourneys to the following
players: Mike Rivera, .913 batting average, Tom Avery, .857
batting average, Tony Miranda, .750 batting average, Pat Tobin,
.708 batting average, and Ron McElyea, who along with his .600
plus hitting, played a sparkling outfield, and was used as a
runner in most innings. Individual stats follow:
