As the morning of June 6 rolled around, the
maintenance crew at the Peters Creek Complex hit the fields at
6:00 a.m. because it had rained almost all Friday night.
By the time the first games were to be played,
the fields were dry and everyone
anxious to hit the ball and win the game.
A tournament of thirty-five teams rallied against
each other until late Sunday afternoon to claim the Gold.

Softball was first featured in the
Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and last year’s competition in
Beijing was very successful with a total attendance close to
180,000 and a continuation of the sport’s excellent record of no
positive doping tests at any of the four Summer Olympics that
the sport has been a part of.
